For the Record…

…U2 are NOT collaborating with Rick Santorum for a fund raiser.

I wasn’t even going to dignify this article with a mention, but then I noticed that one of the searched phrases hitting my blog was “wachovia center santorum bono.” I’m actually the second hit on Google for that.

So I feel a responsibility to inform my readers that, although the slimebucket senator is throwing himself an affair at the upcoming Sunday show in Philly, U2 is in no way involved in raising money for Rick Santorum. (more…)

Odds Are…

You know how everyone always says that flying is the safest way to travel, that the odds of being in a plane crash are really low?

I wonder what the odds are for this guy:

More Brotherly Love

The city of Philadelphia is preparing to house up to 5,000 Hurricane Katrina evacuees, starting as early as tonight. I volunteered to help, but I imagine they will have more offers of help than they need, so we’ll see.

360 Ways to Flip on a Politician

Filed under: — Kate @ 10:47 am EST

Don’t know how many of you already saw this, but last night on 360, Anderson Cooper totally went off on Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu.

Maybe it was the southern drawl, but from the moment the interview began, she struck me as one of the smarmiest politicians I’d seen in a while.

Cooper asked her “Does the federal government bear responsibility for what is happening now? Should they apologize for what is happening now?”

She completely ducked the question, proceeding to go on and on, thanking various politicians. I wanted to reach into my tv and rip out her tongue. And then the most remarkable thing happened: a TV news reporter actually attempted to cut through a politician’s crap!

Cooper’s response: “…I’ve been seeing dead bodies in the streets here in Mississippi. And to listen to politicians thanking each other and complimenting each other… there are a lot of people here who are very upset, and very angry, and very frustrated.”

I paraphrased, but you get the drift. You can find the full transcript on Gawker, and the video on Crooks and Liars. It’s worth a look.

UPDATE: Official CNN transcript here. You have to scroll down (or do a search for “Mary”).

Eve of Destruction

Beyond linking to Attytood’s article yesterday, I haven’t really said anything about Hurricane Katrina. Because really, what could I possibly say? I’m just so desperately sorry for the people down there.

But I will mention a few things here:

-Haley Barbour is a douche. [SunHerald] [News24]

-The Sun Herald website is worth looking at.

UPDATE: I just read that Lowe’s will match in-store customer donations to the Red Cross (up to $1 million). Cool. [CNN]
