What’s the Big Deal?

Filed under: — Kate @ 10:00 pm EST

Okay, I have to get this off my chest…. What is so damn wonderful about Katie Couric? Would somebody please explain that to me, because I’ve never understood it.

It’s not that I hate her—I don’t. I just can’t see why people think she’s so special and amazing when my reaction to her ranges from indifference to mild annoyance.

Not that it really matters to me: I’ve never watched NBC’s Today Show or the CBS Evening News, and I don’t have plans to start.

Still, it would be nice if someone could let me in on the secret.

Well, she does have great legs…

Ok, in all honestly, she was on Today for like 15 or 17 years, a period of long longevity. People are accustomed to her, so the transition to evening news should be an easy one, and one more likely to have people of our generation and the one before us watching the evening news, because it is someone familiar to us and not just some old fogey. Plus, she is the first female to be a national news anchor. That’s it I guess…

I’ll grant you the familiarity, but ironically, Couric will be the oldest anchor of the big three news programs. There aren’t any old fogies anchoring network news anymore, save for Bob Schieffer, who is temporary.

I’m more interested in who’ll replace the chick on the View who is replacing Katie. Yes, that’s sarcasm.

Meredith Viera doesn’t wear panties. Dawson would be happy.

    /too obscure?
