Oh SEPTA… If Only You Were Prettier…
There’s an editorial in City Paper today bitching about how fugly SEPTA is.
It goes on and on about the poor design choices for the vehicles and stations, but then negates itself by citing all of the good (and by good, I mean not total crap) choices, as well as the reasoning behind the bad ones.
But my favorite part of this piece of schlock?
I suspect that just as many [SEPTA] riders would appreciate buses, trains and subways that not only get them from point A to point B quickly but do so while delighting the eye.
Delighting the eye?! You know what I’d appreciate? Token machines in every station. Clearly posted signage. Buses, trains and subways that run on time. Buses, trains and subways that don’t break down. Drivers that don’t skip your stop because you “weren’t standing up,” even though the “stop requested” sign was lit. Stations that don’t smell like urine.
But maybe I just have low expectations.

how about busdrivers that can negotiate a turn without blocking traffic for 2 complete cycles of the traffic lights. or a dump truck type vehicle to just dump everyone out quickly instead of the slow ass pace that everyone seems to use when the bus stops in front of me. (notice i ride bethlehem pike and germantown ave daily… so most of my experiences stem from these septa drivers/riders.)
sorry i unjustly point the finger at all for the mistakes of a few.
but yeah, the “L” stations i have been in do reek of piss

How about just token machiens period? Where oh where are you tokens, at the MFL Spring Garden station? Is it really this difficult to just be a decent public service?

Heh, can’t blame SEPTA for that one. That’s just the Philly residents.
Is it really this difficult to just be a decent public service?
For the SEPTA monkeys? Oh yeah!

Hmmmm… well tell him that I wholeheartedly agree that much of SEPTA is beyond hideous, but they need to improve their inner beauty before they start working on their outer appearance.
