Silly Little Survey III: Food, Glorious Food

Filed under: — Kate @ 12:19 pm EST

This seems to be fun, so I’ll probably do it every few weeks or so (or when the inspiration hits me). I have a theme this time: food. Answer truthfully or lie your ass off, whichever you prefer. I’ll answer my own questions when it seems like everyone else is done.

1) What did you have for dinner last night?

2) How often do you go out to eat? What’s the last place where you dined out?

3) Do you ever eat fast food? From where?

4) How often do you cook at home?

5) Soda or pop?

6) Name some of your favorite ice cream flavors.

7) How often do you eat ethnic food? What kinds?*

8) Is there a special food item or dish that you make—something for which you’re known?

9) Coffee or espresso (or tea)?

10) And the ever burning question: food or sex?

*For our purposes, “ethnic food” will refer to food that clearly has its origins in a country that you are not from, and in many cases, is prepared and served by someone from that country. It can’t be an Americanized version like pizza or hamburgers. I think you catch my drift.

  1. Holz Says:

    1) What did you have for dinner last night?
Black Bear Diner, where I had a Big Burger Steak and eggs, with French Fries fries

    2) How often do you go out to eat? What’s the last place where you dined out?
Often, I’d say 5 times a week. Last night was Black Bear, night before was Arby’s

    3) Do you ever eat fast food? From where?
Sadly, alot of the time. Favorite places are Wendy’s, KFC, In-N-Out occasionally, Jack-in-the-Box, Carl’s Jr., and now Arby’s

    4) How often do you cook at home?
Aside from cereal? I cook pasta and chicken at least once a week

    5) Soda or pop?
Soda, of course, I’m not a hick.

    6) Name some of your favorite ice cream flavors.
Cookie dough, vanilla, coffee, anything with peanut butter

    7) How often do you eat ethnic food? What kinds?*
I love sushi, but only eat it once or twice month. Eat alot of chinese (right now in fact). And does Taco Bell count?

    8) Is there a special food item or dish that you make—something for which you’re known?
I make a mean Spicy Chicken Mushroom Cheese Casserole (ie. I boil pasta, grill a chicken, and mix in a can of Campbell’s soup with a shitload of spices.

    9) Coffee or espresso (or tea)?
For a while I was on a coffee with a double shot of espresso kick, but lately I just have the Double Dutch Chocolate coffee from Safeway.

    10) And the ever burning question: food or sex?
Well, seeing as I’ve lived a good couple of months without sex, I’d go with food. Although… can you really call it living?

  2. Manchild Says:

    1) What did you have for dinner last night?
Sauteed beef slices, fried vegetables, broccoli and a mix of boiled rice and fried rice. And about 4 beers. And about 7 gin and tonics. (I lost count. And yes, it’s too much even for a Friday night, but there were extenuating circumstances.)

    2) How often do you go out to eat? What’s the last place where you dined out?
Something like 6.5 days a week on average at the moment. I’m hardly ever home to eat.

    3) Do you ever eat fast food? From where?
Hardly ever. Pizza Hut if I must. Maybe Quick (for a salad). Never ever McDonalds or Burger King or anything like that.

    4) How often do you cook at home?
On average, maybe twice a month.

    5) Soda or pop?
Neither. Aspartame is a poisen and carbonated sugar water doesn’t slake my thirst.

    6) Name some of your favorite ice cream flavors.
    Mint. Strawberry. Banana. Pineapple.

    7) How often do you eat ethnic food? What kinds?*
At least 4 or 5 times a week. And all kinds. Japanese, Moroccon, Thai, Chinese, Hong Kong, Indonesian, Lebanese, Pakistani, Indian…

    8) Is there a special food item or dish that you make—something for which you’re known?
Nope. Though I’ve been told I do a very nice cooked breakfast, I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m “known” for it.

    9) Coffee or espresso (or tea)?
Depends on my needs. Espresso after meals. Coffee during the day when I want a kick. Tea (especially Ice Tea) when I need to unwind or just chill.

    10) And the ever burning question: food or sex?
This is a question? Food, through sheer practical necessity. But sex brings me greater pleasure. I’ve had some marathon sessions, but I’ve never sat and ate for 3 hours.

  3. Larakin Says:

    1) What did you have for dinner last night?
Chicken Stew catered from Carvers (Durango Resturant) at my best friends wedding

    2) How often do you go out to eat? What’s the last place where you dined out?
Way too often… Strangely enought it was Carvers again (but I didnt have the chicken stew)

    3) Do you ever eat fast food? From where?
Every once and awhile. BK mostly, Wendys is second

    4) How often do you cook at home?
Very Rarely and it consists of Mac’n Cheese, Top Ramen, and the occational BBQ

    5) Soda or pop?
Soda, but only reciently, Growing up it was always just Coke

    6) Name some of your favorite ice cream flavors.
    B&J’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie

    7) How often do you eat ethnic food? What kinds?
Rarely, I cant stomach much more than pasta and cheese

    8) Is there a special food item or dish that you make—something for which you’re known?
I make a mead Terriaki Burger on the grill

    9) Coffee or espresso (or tea)?
Tea, I cant do coffee yet.

    10) And the ever burning question: food or sex?
I love food, and I love sex… so both, at the same time preferrably!!

  4. Edo Says:

    1) What did you have for dinner last night?
Way too effing little, I tell you what. Need to lose weight so can compete with Adonis. Vegas odds looking very long.

    2) How often do you go out to eat? What’s the last place where you dined out?
If differentiating going out from eating takeout in, a couple times a week in average. Thankfully we avoid all fast-food places and chain restaurants and such, so we can truly call ourselves hipsters. (snap).

    3) Do you ever eat fast food? From where?
Only in malls, if desperate. Or if out driving, or if feeling particularly self-loathing. Penitenziagite!

    4) How often do you cook at home?
As I am the one who does 90% of the cooking, quite often. For some reason this seems to be correlated to the amount of times we go out to eat.

    5) Soda or pop?
I don’t associate with people who use ‘pop’. I also don’t associate with people that use ‘coke’ to describe any sort of soda. Of course, I also don’t associate with non-alcoholics, hence the only time soda is mentioned is as part of a Cuba Libre, 7&7, or other such drinks.

    6) Name some of your favorite ice cream flavors.
The purer, the better. The chocolatier, the better. I also like all nut-based ice creams. I also once had a ‘Puffo’ flavored ice cream. For the non-italians amongst you, that means ‘Smurf’. Gargamel was onto something.

    7) How often do you eat ethnic food? What kinds?
Often. The kinds that are around here. Unfortunately the really ethnic dining locations are very seedy and in the ghetto, so they are seldom worhty of consideration for dinner out.

    8) Is there a special food item or dish that you make—something for which you’re known?
Drunken pasta. The drunker I am, and the drunker my guests, the better it tastes. Works particularly well when guests are high. Haven’t done this in a while; need to get drunk again.

    9) Coffee or espresso (or tea)?
Espresso. Or frou-frou latte drinks, mit espresso.

    10) And the ever burning question: food or sex?
Food can be a wonderful tool during sex. I can think of uses for Nutella, whipped cream, Crisco, any phallic-shaped veggie, jello, fried eggs, and so on and so forth. Oh am I going to regret having written this sentence. ;-) [ed. note: Yes, he will.]

  5. Holz Says:

    Fried eggs? Really?

  6. Edo Says:

I was thinking of that scene with Charlie Sheen and Valeria Golino in Hot Shots…

  7. Lushy Says:

    1) What did you have for dinner last night?
Foreman grilled sausage on a salad.

    2) How often do you go out to eat? What’s the last place where you dined out?
2-3 times a week. I had lunch at Submarina today.

    3) Do you ever eat fast food? From where?
Yes. In N Out, Fatburger, Jack, Mickey D’s, Wendy’s, Del Taco, Taco Bell, KFC, Arby’s, Weinershnitzel

    4) How often do you cook at home?
    4-5 meals a week

    5) Soda or pop?
Soda, although soda-pop or fizzy drink is acceptable. I also agree about Mexican Coke and Pepsi.

    6) Name some of your favorite ice cream flavors.
Chocolate chip Mint and Cookie Dough!

    7) How often do you eat ethnic food? What kinds?*
Every now and then. Chinese, Thai (Not huge on), Sushi, Italian

    8) Is there a special food item or dish that you make—something for which you’re known?
    Homemade pastas, sauces, steaks

    9) Coffee or espresso (or tea)?
    Green tea or a frappuchino

    10) And the ever burning question: food or sex?
    Can’t live without either…

  8. Kate Says:

I just remembered I never answered my own survey. Doh! I thought I’d better do it before we close the comments, so here goes:

    1) What did you have for dinner last night?
Crab dip, a few pieces of a chicken quesadilla, huge caesar salad with grilled tuna, two Tom Collins, a cosmo, and a chocolate martini.

    2) How often do you go out to eat? What’s the last place where you dined out?
I would say 1-2 times per week, though we’ve been cutting back on that a lot lately (both to save money and our waistlines). Of course, I did go out last night: New Deck Tavern (Irish pub) for dinner, and then the bar at La Terrasse (French restaurant) for more drinks afterward.

    3) Do you ever eat fast food? From where?
Occasionally. I really try to avoid it, especially McDonald’s (I only go there if my only other option is to gnaw off my own arm). I must admit, I do have a weakness for Taco Bell. And I eat other things that could be considered borderline fast food: Boston Market, Wawa sandwiches (the fresh made ones), and Chinese food (either from a food truck or delivery).

    4) How often do you cook at home?
Well… I used to cook quite a bit. But now I’m not really allowed in the kitchen. Not because I’m a bad cook, but because some people think I take too long… I still do almost all of the baking—cakes, muffins, cookies, etc. All the things that are bad for you. :-p

    5) Soda or pop?
Soda. Pop is for rednecks and hillbillies.

    6) Name some of your favorite ice cream flavors.
Anything with chocolate (the darker the better), coffee/espresso flavor, or peanut butter. Or any combination thereof. I also loved the Penn State pumpkin flavor. And Ben & Jerry’s has two new flavors out that I’m loving: Fossil Fuel and Dublin Mudslide.

    7) How often do you eat ethnic food? What kinds?
Quite often, Chinese and Indian being the primaries. We also eat Mexican food quite a bit, though it would be more accurate to call it Mexican-inspired. We also go out for Japanese food every few months. And there’s always Italian food, of course, but I don’t really count that.

    8) Is there a special food item or dish that you make—something for which you’re known?
I always get good feedback on my hot crab and artichoke dip. And people love my pumpkin muffins. People also love my oatmeal cookies, but I got that recipe from my mom, so I can’t really take credit.

    9) Coffee or espresso (or tea)?
Espresso. In a latte. But I’ll drink anything depending on how badly I need a fix. I also drink a bit of tea, especially in the winter. Earl Grey, green tea w/lemon, and Sleepytime (Celestial Seasonings) are my favorites.

    10) And the ever burning question: food or sex?
Well… I suppose it depends on the quality of the choices. For some, a nice juicy burger would be better than what awaits them in bed. On the other hand, if you can find a partner who’s good in the sack AND in the kitchen, you’re set for life. :-)

    Well, good luck with THAT
