Radio Blog #4: Rock’s Hottest Ticket

Filed under: — Kate @ 2:36 pm EST

So, because I completely suck and haven’t updated the radio blog in months, I thought I’d put up something relevant to my last post. Here is one of my favorite U2 concert bootlegs, from the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago, April 29, 1987. Good stuff.

Talk Without Speaking, Scream Without Raising Your Voice

Filed under: — Kate @ 11:47 pm EST

So I’ve been gone for a little while… I keep doing that… Sorry! :-p Right now I’ve almost lost my voice, and I’ve got that sexy raspy thing going for me. Or so I thought. Last night on the phone, my brother told me that I sounded like a man. And this morning, Edo said that I sound like a whorish sorority girl. So much for sexy. (more…)

Silly Little Survey: Part Deux

Filed under: — Kate @ 11:40 pm EST

Well, as this week draws to a close, I’m just a little bit closer to cracking up and going to live in a padded room. So as I sit here, sipping some sherry, catching up on some TV, I was thinking… the last little survey I did was fun, so I thought I’d try this again. In honor of my wonderful week of wankers, some of the questions are about work. Answer truthfully or lie your ass off, whichever you prefer.

1) On a scale of 1-10, rate your job on its suckitude. Let 1=7th level of hell and 10=72 virgins in paradise. If you don’t have a job, I guess you can rate how much that does or does not suck.

2) Are you listening to music or watching television at this exact moment? If so, what’s on?

3) What’s your favorite film from the original Star Wars trilogy?

4) Boxers or briefs?

5) How long is your commute and how much money do you piss away each week on gasoline?

6) What’s the image on your computer desktop (background)?

7) When you walk into a bar, what drink do you most commonly order (can be non-alcoholic if that applies).

8) How’s the weather in your current location (specify Celsius, Fahrenheit, or Kelvin).

9) Vanilla or Chocolate?

10) Do you have any super powers?

Coming Out of My Cage

Filed under: — Kate @ 1:45 am EST

But it’s just the price I pay. Holy freaking crap, last week was really stressful. This week isn’t looking to be too much better, since I think I can still feel the ulcer growing. Data errors, data demands, suprise new employees, two leaks in my apartment (one huge one—maybe I’ll post a picture later).

But there were some highlights…
-Gotta gotta be down. Got to see Allie on Friday night! Too bad I had to work the whole time. (I’ll make it up to you, promise!)
-Open up my eager eyes. On Saturday, I went to my first of four U2 shows this year. Very awesome, but my seats weren’t very good. Scratch that, they were bad. But the concert was still great—I wouldn’t expect any less. My boys from Dublin, they know how to put on a show. Got to hear some songs I’ve never heard live before. A few of the classic old standards were absent—I sent Lushy a text message right after that read “Kate after first Philly U2 concert: No WOWY? How can there be no WOWY?” But that’s okay. I have a feeling a few of those favorites might return in the fall.

And then again, there were some low points…
-Now I’m falling asleep. After Allie left, I was up until 4AM finishing my project.
-And my stomach is sick. After the U2 concert I ate a rotten strawberry. (Well, I put it in my mouth and began to chew. It never made it to my stomach.) My GOD that was disgusting.

How did it end up like this? Well anyway, I didn’t write this post to solicit sympathy. I just wanted to ramble a bit. After all, it turns out there are people who had worse weekends than me.

And I’ve been doing just fine.

Enforced Insanity

Speaking of IDs, I wondered what you guys think of this:

Last week, in anticipation of the new movie, we decided to have some friends over and watch Star Wars Episodes I and II. We don’t actually have the DVDs (waiting for a trilogy), and our local independent store didn’t have Ep. II so Edo decided to rent them from Blockbuster. Biking way further west into the ghetto than I would ever venture, he set out. But when he tried to sign up for a new account to rent the movies, they said no. Want to know why? Because he doesn’t have an American driver’s license. He’s an American citizen. He has a US passport (which he showed them). And all other sorts of IDs, credit cards, etc. But no driver’s license. So they wouldn’t open an account. (more…)

To me, this image exemplifies what is wrong with this country.

…well, much of it anyway. If I find something that depicts the rest of it, I shall post that as well.

A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away…

Two suns

What is your earliest memory of Star Wars?

Myself, I was probably about 4 or 5 years old, at the house of family friends, watching the first movie with their son. I vividly remember that early scene on Tatooine with the shot of the two suns. I was so confused by that, and my father had to explain to me that it was another planet, not Earth. That was the first time I began to grasp the concept of other planetary systems besides our own.

So reach back into the archives of your brain, and tell me your earliest recollections of the phenomenon that is Star Wars. Anything associated with the franchise counts.

ABC: Association of Bigoted Christians

Is ABC providing airtime to Focus on the Family ad after denying it to United Church of Christ? [Media Matters]

So they dismiss an ad depicting a church’s policy that is inclusive and tolerant of all types of people, but approve a commercial from a religious organization notorious for their messages of bigotry and prejudice?

And Now… Deep Thoughts

Edo said something tonight that I thought was just so profound. If Jeffrey Combs and Bruce Campbell ever did a movie together, the universe would stop. Thoughts anyone?
