RIP Y100

Filed under: — Kate @ 12:45 am EST

Y100--RIP Not that I was ever a big fan of Y100. I stopped listening to that station when I was 15 or 16. I’ve always hated seeing their stamp all over local concerts, etc. I always took issue with the fact that they described themselves as “alternative.”

But the truth is that this will create a major void in the Philadelphia radio market. And as much as I don’t like the station, this makes me realize that I don’t want to see them gone. And what a shitty way to do this. It seems that they basically made the decision over night, making sure they screwed their staff thoroughly.

Saffron’s Mad About Me

Filed under: — Kate @ 9:49 pm EST

So, as previously mentioned, I went to see The Gates in New York City last Saturday. I took the train up with Edo, my brother, and his friends Eric and Alex. It was a sight to behold.

Aside from the obvious “saffron” colored gates, it was a great place for people watching. Such a diverse crowd. All ages and races, languages and cultures, large groups and individuals.

I overheard one man explaining to his companion in a very proper voice “This differs significantly from Christo’s last project, when they wrapped the Reichstag….” And then a few minutes later, I heard a woman say in a thick Brooklyn accent “And this one time, they made the ocean pink!”

We walked around Central Park, and then spent some time in the Met. It was a lot of fun, and later we had dinner with a college pal that I don’t get to see too often. All in all, a very nice (and exhausting) day.

Here are some pictures from our day.

Tomato/Tomahto. Suicide/Homicide…

Filed under: — Kate @ 4:20 pm EST

Let’s call the whole thing off….

From Media Matters for America:
Without any editorial notation disclosing that words in the AP articles have been changed, FOX News replaces the terms “suicide bomber” and “suicide bombing” with “homicide bomber” and “homicide bombing” to describe attackers who kill themselves and others with explosives. In at least one case, FOX News actually altered an AP quote from Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) to fit this naming convention, and then revised it to restore the quote without noting either the original alteration or its correction.

I’m Just Mad About Saffron

Filed under: — Kate @ 1:08 am EST

This past weekend I had the chance to visit New York City and see The Gates in Central Park. Very neat. I will post some pictures soon. Also, check out the post I made about the FCC that I was finally able to restore.

You Miss Too Much These Days If You Stop To Think

Filed under: — Kate @ 3:56 pm EST

Stan has inspired me to point out something to y’all. The following is a list of the references to songs, tv, or movies that have shown up in my post titles thus far. See how many you can get (song title and group or name of movie/tv show). Lushy, if you’re reading this, I suppose the odds are sort of stacked in your favor…. I’ll update as they are correctly guessed. I’ll also update in a couple days if no one really gives a crap. (more…)

Death to the Cheese-Eating Surrender Monkeys!

Filed under: — Kate @ 1:21 am EST

The latest issue of Rolling Stone arrived in my mailbox today, and man did I read something scary about the Sinclair Broadcast Group. Remember them? The ones who forced all of their affiliates to air the anti-Kerry “Stolen Honor” pseudo-documentary?

Sinclair Broadcast Group is the largest single owner/operator of television stations in the United States (62 stations in 39 markets). They reach almost one quarter of US households and include ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, UPN, and WB affiliates.

Lindsay Lohan Dolling It Up

The Mattel doll company announced that they are making a Barbie doll in the likeness of teen queen Lindsay Lohan. Like the real Lindsay Lohan, the doll will have red hair, dress in red-carpet attire, and be made entirely of plastic. (more…)

Kudos to Boston’s WGBH and the 42 PBS stations who decided to air the the controversial “Vermont” episode of the children’s show Postcards from Buster.

Houston PBS station KUHT’s program director, Ken Lawrence, said “…we wanted to take the opportunity to start a dialogue on the issues that made this such a controversy.”

Now why was it controversial, you ask? (more…)

Grammys On My Mind

Filed under: — Kate @ 5:42 pm EST

The Performances
Opening Sequence: While The Black Eyed Peas make good records, I have yet to see a live performance of theirs that didn’t suck, and last night as no exception. …Gwen and Eve, though—oh my God they sounded great. I love Gwen. And damn, I would kill to have her legs. Los Lonely Boys, Maroon 5 and Franz Ferdinand all performed well, but the sound people did not do their jobs. In fact, most of the rock performances in the show were poorly engineered. Such a shame. And I wish they would have let Franz Ferdinand start their song from the beginning, but oh well. (more…)

Well, the lovely people that host our web space lost all my data after February 8th. Luckily for me, it was only a few posts, and only one of them was long. I’ll try to reconstruct them over the next few days. I have a rather long post about the Grammys coming up shortly. Good thing I didn’t post it last night. Damn it, though!

Server trouble - data loss

Filed under: — Edo @ 5:19 pm EST

Starting a Landslide in My Ego has experienced server problems, and as a consequence lost several days’ worth of posts and comments. For the technical-minded, our hosting company upgraded the servers, but their local backup of their users’ SQL databases was hosed, as were mine. This is the best they managed to dig up. I apologize to Kate and to you, our wide fanbase, for the outage and losses.

Three more reasons the FCC and censorship advocates MUST BE STOPPED.

Here are some excerpts from recent articles that everyone should read:

Excerpts from the letter: While we acknowledge the importance of parental control over children’s viewing habits, Hollywood and certain media companies work to ensure that children are exposed to it whether they or their parents like it or not. (more…)

He’s a Very Clean Old Man

Clear Channel and Fox News: Friends or Bedfellows?

Filed under: — Kate @ 1:39 pm EST

As some of you may already know, my apartment building is next to a small cathedral. When we moved in I thought, “Gee, this is nice. What a pretty church.” Then about 3 months later, I started hearing bells ring from time to time and I thought “Ooh, pretty bells.” Well, it wasn’t long before my warm fuzzy feelings turned to thoughts of destruction and mayhem….
